ICANN, informed that the American company VeriSign has won the competition to negotiate the domains. net, when overcoming with its proposal to other four applicants. ICANN had summoned to several companies the past March 6 to award the administration of the domains. net, before the finalization of the agreement that the organ regulator of Internet had with VeriSign.

Five candidates were presented to the call, but Telcordia Technologies, the consultant in charge of the evaluation, declared that although the five companies were able to negotiate the domains. net, the best qualified continued being VeriSgn. ICANN decided that VeriSign will continue being the one in charge of negotiating the domains. net up to the 2001.
